Strength-Based Employee Development

In Motivated Development™, a one-day program, employees take ownership of their on-the-job development by learning to create development projects linked to their managers’ priorities, and their own talents, strengths and key motivators. Linking development assignments to the employees' motivators ensures that the development assignments they take on have sufficient motivational fuel to carry them through the challenges and obstacles that inevitably arise in the development process. This approach stands in direct contrast to plans that focus only on gaps and weaknesses which lack the motivational energy to sustain them and most often result in incompletions and wasted resources and energy — much like New Year's resolutions!

Motivated, strength-based development projects created in this program are designed to be discussed with managers to make a collaborative development plan. Managers are relieved of having to generate development ideas for all of their employees, yet retain critical input. In addition, employees learn critical skills applicable year-round, not only linked to the standard performance and development cycles.

Motivated Development™ teaches employees to recognize managers’ critical priorities, apply problem-solving skills, and to make requests that actively support business objectives as the best road to successful development for the employee while providing direct benefit to the manager and the organization.

BENEFITS

  • Employees learn to merge their development into their job rather than holding it as a separate activity.
  • By demonstrating how to make development requests that generate positive responses from their managers, employees learn self-initiative, a skill that is not inborn in everyone, but that can be taught.
  • Employees learn how to apply their key motivators (Career Drivers™) for both immediate and long-term development. By learning to leverage their Career Drivers™, they can increase their own engagement without looking to the manager to provide motivation for them.
  • A Win-Win is created.
  • Employees learn to increase their opportunities to do the kinds of work they like to do and for which they're best suited.
