The Career Development Team is group of experienced professionals committed to the growth and development of organizational employees. Our firm has been in continuous practice for more than 30 years; and we have been responsible for developing and delivering some of the most innovative and successful career development and performance development programs and systems.

Jerry Sturman, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO

Jerry is the author of If You Knew Who You Were…You Could Be Who You Are, a comprehensive career self-assessment book; Managing Your Career With “POWER,” a career management guide for organizational employees; Coaching Careers and Performance, a handbook for managers and supervisors; and co-author with Nettie Spiwack of Coaching Development, Careers & Performance, also a handbook for managers; DevelopmentWorks®, a complete web-based employee development tool; CareerPortrait®, a web-based career assessment instrument; the chapter on Career Development and Growth in the AMA Handbook for Developing Employee Assistance & Counseling Programs; and the chapter on career management in The 1996 McGraw-Hill Training and Performance Sourcebook. Jerry holds a BA, BS and MS from Columbia and a Ph.D. from Cornell.

Peggy C. Bier, President and Chief Operating Officer

Peggy is in charge of leading The Career Development Team in all aspects of our work, including project management, client services, program development, marketing, and financial operations. In more than 25 years at CDT, Peggy has managed projects that range from serving tens of thousands of employees in a single contract to single workshops. Known for her commitment to quality and client relationships, Peggy is proud of numerous client associations that stretch back over three decades. Peggy has been the key liaison in programs for Air Products, Colgate Palmolive, Depository Trust Company, Discover, Dow Chemical, Eileen Fisher, Merrill Lynch, Nissan, Southco, State Street, and many other domestic and multinational companies. Peggy holds a BA from Bradley University, with a strong background in psychology, social work, marketing and sales.

Nettie M. Spiwack, Vice President of Training & Development

Nettie has been the chief designer of CDT’s programs since joining the company in 1983. A background in diversity, large group conflict resolution and communication has supported her ability to conduct trainings at all levels of the workforce, from the factory floor to the executive suite. Nettie is the principal author of DevelopmentWorks® and CareerPortrait®, CDT’s comprehensive online career and development management system. Her book, Coaching Development, Careers & Performance, co-authored with Dr. Gerald M. Sturman, was published by Bierman House in 2001, and is in use in numerous global corporations.In addition to conducting certification trainings nationally and internationally, she works with corporate clients to customize CDT’s programs and materials to their specifications. Through her direct work and licensing projects, she has reached tens of thousands of people in corporations such as AT&T, Bayer Corporation, Bell Atlantic, Colgate-Palmolive, Dow Chemical, Eileen Fisher, Estee Lauder, Gillette, IBM, ITT Hartford, Kodak, Loral, Lucent Technologies, Merrill Lynch, Motorola, Nabisco, Southco, The New York Times, Nissan, State Street, Toshiba, United Airlines, US Airways, and many others. Nettie is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Herbert H. Lehman College of The City University of New York, and has over 3000 classroom hours in numerous trainings, including doctoral level studies in human development.
